BARBRI for Law Schools is dedicated to helping law schools prepare students for the NextGen exam. From the first day of law school, we are uniquely positioned to help students attain the Foundational Knowledge and Foundational Skills they need to become licensed attorneys.
How We’re Preparing for NextGen
We are reimagining what it means to prepare students for success. Groups of experts across BARBRI and West Academic have been sharing their collective insights and have been working together to reevaluate the learning experience, pedagogy, and technology we use to deliver bar exam prep for the NextGen bar exam.
While we have a team with tremendous experience and expertise across BARBRI, our law school partners play a critical role in helping us reimagine bar prep. We’ve assembled an Advisory Board comprised of Law School Deans and Academic Support Professionals to work hand-in-hand with us to create the best course possible. We’re also listening to students through focus groups, research, and testing.

We’ve Done This Before!
Based on our reputation for quality in legal education, we were asked by the Solicitors Regulation Authority in the UK to create a course to prepare students for the UK’s new licensing exam for solicitors (the SQE), which was given in 2021. Our students excelled — besting the national pass rate by about 25%. Notably, SQE includes skills components similar to those that will be tested on the Next Generation bar exam.

West Academic and Foundation Press® offer a robust collection of classroom content and teaching resources designed to introduce students to the lawyering skills they’ll need to better prepare them for the NextGen Exam and for practice.
Our new Interactive Developing Professional Skills Lessons, available in many of our CasebookPlus™ titles, allow faculty to asynchronously introduce students to foundational skills that build the bridge to NextGen readiness while the formative self-assessments and black letter quizzes in CasebookPlus and West Academic Assessment help them establish the foundational knowledge they’ll need.
BARBRI provides high-quality, engaging, and effective bar curriculum and instructional resources that promote student learning and success across the law school journey. Starting with the Pre-1L Lawyering Fundamentals course that places students in the mindset of a “lawyer in training”, to the Targeted Intervention Course that uses the model of the classroom as a law firm, and finally, with the 3L Extended Bar Review course that lengthens the runway for bar preparation.
Building these skills throughout law school creates a strong foundation for your students before they begin preparing for the bar.
Where Innovation Meets Tradition
We are building a BARBRI NextGen course that leverages technology and the latest learning science to drive the strongest possible outcomes and prepare students for the Foundational Concepts and Principles and Foundational Skills being tested on the NextGen Bar Exam. This will be available to bar takers in March 2026 for the July 2026 bar exam.
New Pedagogy for a New Generation of Learners
BARBRI’s NextGen course leverages the learning power of story-driven instruction as the central component of the course. Students will be introduced to core legal concepts with topic-based, animated videos that present character-driven stories that engage students in contextual learning. Additional features of the new course include:
• Scaffolded pedagogy helps learners build knowledge and gain confidence
• Engaging animated videos with a recurring cast of characters that keep students entertained while cementing their understanding
• New segmented lecture format delivered with “auto-play” feature provides maximum flexibility for learners to consume material according to their preferences.
• Lectures are infused with a scenario-based learning approach that specifically help with issue spotting and other foundation skills
• New textual materials directedly aligned with the course and optimized for digital delivery via VitalSource
• New course UI that modernizes course delivery and eases course navigation
• New performance test platform that empowers students to apply the skills they’ve learned in the course and evaluate their own performance
